Kalyn Ponga eyes rapid World Cup return after rejoining Kiwis camp

Kalyn Ponga is aiming for a remarkable return at the World Cup after rejoining New Zealand’s camp on the Gold Coast, just two weeks after breaking his arm in the tournament opener against Australia. The Knights captain had surgery and was expected to miss the rest of the tournament, but he has been taking part in fitness drills and light passing with his forearm strapped. He won’t play against Fiji on Saturday, but is an outside chance for next week’s semi-final and is determined to play in the final on November 15 if the Kiwis get there. Coach Stacey Jones said Ponga had been adamant about returning and was being assessed week to week.
