Bears hold talks with Matt Burton about Perth reunion with Toby Sexton
The Perth Bears have held preliminary talks with Matt Burton’s management about a move to Perth, where he would be reunited with former Bulldogs halves partner Toby Sexton. Canterbury have given Burton permission to test the market before he becomes a free agent on November 1, though they hold last rights and want to keep him as a centre. The Bears are prepared to hand him the No.6 jersey and a salary to match, and have yet to use their 20 per cent marquee salary cap allowance. Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould said both parties want to stay together and are simply using the market to determine Burton’s value. Parramatta are among other clubs that could show interest.
