Eels could get salary cap relief if Josh Addo-Carr is banned for 12 matches

Parramatta could apply for a salary cap deduction of up to $180,000 if Josh Addo-Carr receives a 12-match ban for a positive cocaine test, but the club is still weighing whether to terminate his contract. Under the collective bargaining agreement, clubs can deduct part of a player's salary for each game missed when a suspension exceeds eight matches, which would cut Addo-Carr's cap hit from $450,000 to $270,000 next season. The same relief would apply to any club that signs him if the Eels let him go. Parramatta are torn between standing by a popular player and the seriousness of the incident.
