Wests Tigers on the verge of keeping Samuela Fainu until 2029

The Wests Tigers are on the verge of keeping Samuela Fainu, with the back-rower set to reject free agency and sign a two-year extension until the end of 2029. The deal is worth around $800,000 a season, with ratchet clauses that could lift it close to $1 million as the salary cap increases from 2028. Fainu had attracted interest from three NRL clubs and the PNG Chiefs, but has chosen to follow his brother Sione in committing to the club and backing coach Benji Marshall. The Tigers are confident of finalising the deal before November 1 and will now focus on re-signing Latu Fainu.
