Xavier Willison pauses Broncos talks as PNG Chiefs loom
Xavier Willison has paused contract talks with Brisbane while he changes management, raising the prospect of him hitting the open market on November 1. The Broncos have offered a multi-year deal worth around $4 million and remain confident he will stay, but the PNG Chiefs are expected to make a play for the Kiwi Test prop if he becomes a free agent. PNG's tax-free status could make a deal far more lucrative, with Willison potentially earning an extra $1.76 million over four years on a $1 million-a-season contract. Coach Michael Maguire says the deal will be sorted, and Willison has said he wants to stay in Brisbane and raise his family there.
