Roosters prepare record offer to make Sam Walker highest-paid player in club history

The Roosters are preparing an upgraded offer to Sam Walker that would make him the highest-paid player in the club's history. Walker's camp rejected a four-year deal starting at $1.1 million a season in August, but since then the halfback has made his Origin debut, steered the Roosters to the premiership and earned a World Cup call-up. The club will now offer a deal until the end of 2031 starting at around $1.3 million a season, with a ratchet clause lifting it to between $1.5 million and $1.56 million as the salary cap rises under the new broadcast deal. The package could be worth more than $6 million, well above James Tedesco's current $1.1 million. Walker is off-contract after 2027 and free to talk to rivals from November 1, but has indicated he wants to stay, while the Roosters are not interested in a bidding war.
