Nathan Cleary puts Panthers contract talks on hold, set to hit free agency on November 1
Nathan Cleary's contract negotiations with Penrith have been put on hold while he recovers from surgery on the double compound leg fracture he suffered in the preliminary final loss to Newcastle. His management has told the Panthers what figure he has in mind, but there's no rush to return to talks, with his health the immediate priority. The delay means Cleary is likely to become a free agent for the first time from November 1, allowing rival clubs, including the PNG Chiefs, to make offers. His main goal is being fit for Round 1 next season. Penrith have also held early talks with Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin and Moses Leota about extensions, with Yeo close to finalising a three-year deal and Martin confident he'll stay.
