World Cup set to be last with major pay gap between Kangaroos and rest
The World Cup is expected to be the last tournament with a major pay gap between the Kangaroos and the rest of the world, with the issue set to be addressed in the next collective bargaining agreement. Australian players are receiving $40,000 for the tournament, while players from every other nation are paid $850 per Test. ARLC chairman Peter V'landys said the commission can only negotiate for the Kangaroos, but would look at the difference. Kangaroos captain Isaah Yeo believes pay parity for rival nations is inevitable given the game's record broadcast deal, while Samoa coach Ben Gardiner said the current arrangement favours Australia and needs to be fixed before the next deal is agreed.
