Panthers chairman Greg Alexander says Nathan Cleary's leg injury is not as severe as first reported, following an update from the club's medical staff after his second surgery. Alexander explained that Cleary broke his fibula but not his tibia, meaning it was not a double fracture as widely reported. While his ankle was forced through the skin, no broken bone came through, so it was not a true compound fracture. Cleary did rupture his syndesmosis, which required screws to hold the ankle together. Alexander described it as the best possible outcome given how serious the injury looked.
