Dane Gagai cleared to play for New Zealand at World Cup

Dane Gagai has been cleared to play for New Zealand at the upcoming World Cup after winning an unprecedented appeal against International Rugby League rules. The guidelines have previously stopped men's players from switching between tier one nations, but the Knights centre argued his case this week, pointing to how long it has been since his last Test for the Kangaroos. His appeal was upheld on the eve of Sunday's Grand Final, where he will chase a first premiership with Newcastle. If selected, Gagai will join Knights teammate Kalyn Ponga in the Kiwis' squad and become one of very few players to represent both Australia and New Zealand, alongside Tonie Carroll.
